The following is an autobiography by a Jacobs’ Journal staff member.
My name is Khai Vu, and I am currently a freshman Mathematics Computer Science major from ERC. I don’t really have an aim for what I want to do. I’ve dabbled in a wide range of subjects such as robotics, computer vision, and virtualization technology but haven’t found anything I want to dive super deep into. In my free time, I enjoy reading, doodling, and playing video games with friends.
Since this is my first year in college, I haven’t had much going on and learning felt almost stagnant and isolating. I heard of Jacobs’ Journal through a link in one of my class Discords. I thought “hey, it seems cool; I’ve read a number of science papers so I’m not totally in deep water.” It also seemed like a fun way to make friends that weren’t through the giant freshman (Class of 2024) discord. I am somewhat acquainted with computer vision after doing a high school senior project using image segmentation, but more recently I’ve taken interest in the Linux KVM and fluid and photon simulations mainly with graphics rendering. Delving deeper into the fields that I’ve casually skimmed through should help me clarify what I want to focus on, which is why I joined Jacobs’ Journal. I hope to expand my knowledge and skills, and I look forward to connecting more with my peers especially when I come on campus in the fall.
